it's easier for the iraqi regime to let their people believe they're winning, than it is for the US government to conceal their losses.

remember that a lot of journalists quit being embedded and chose to go their own way. on the NOS Journaal in Holland, there's a daily report from one reporter stationed in Baghdad. That guy's really there. And there are numerous other reporters freelancing throughout Iraq, that the US military has no control over. Of course they're being denied military sattelite access, but most networks bring over their own equipment.

re: Death of the PC games industry?

Glancing at the shelf selection at a recent visit to Electronic Boutique,  it does appear as if storeowners are reducing shelf space significantly (alongside smaller size packaging)  reserved for PC titles and making room for console titles.  Most of the PC titles out there  aren't really that interesting to me, even at a reduced price rate,  I already have the titles in top 50 anyway.

Coincidentally,  I just installed a new power source when the old one died out in my PC.  I fired up a game of The SimsŪ   to create a community of messageboard personality sims and celebrity sims.  This should interesting...

Right now, for me,  it's:

GBA  | Playstation2  |  Gamecube

XBOX?

When Munch's Oddysee  appears multi-platform!  ;)

Popcorn movies always have their place.  Of course there are degrees of popcorn movies, but even then I don't think Tomb Raider was at the bottom of that list.  Now the Core . . .

Lest we forget we need a name for the main character.  Something edgy, like Killden Allded, Maxamillian (Max) Power, or our all time favorite Dick Justice.

OMG YOU MEAN AN IMAGINARY GAME THAT MIGHT BE RELEASED IN TEN YEARS IF IT EVEN EXISTS AT ALL IS GOING TO EXCLUSIVELY USE HARDWARE FROM A COMPANY THAT'S ON A DOWNHILL SLOPE (yay thanks for the new detonators, nvidia, and thanks for making it easy to revert; hint: buying 3dfx was good, buying their idea men wasn't--remember, you bought them for a reason; hint2: ATI's going to kick your asses if you keep this up) THAT MIGHT NOT EVEN BE AROUND WHEN/IF THE IMAGINARY GAME BECOMES NON-IMAGINARY?!!??!?!!

i'll be waiting with bated breath for the answer to this question. oh, wait.

There are serious communication issues on PC recently. People don't understand eachother. Others fight their keyboards. The majority can't spell. Some can't use proper grammer. Many can't even write coherently. And the increasing hostility. And it's only getting worse.

#36 It got to a point where you almost don't want to believe anything. I think Al Sahaf is being very stupid if he thinks he can get away with lies. It's a dumb move. Yesterday I sat behind the TV waiting for some kind of breaking news after Sahaf mentioned the plans they had to kill all the troops at the airport. Nothing! Nada! Then again, it's kindof like the Shock and Awe thing. I'm still waiting for the shock and awe phase of the bombing.

oh, that. well... the UN just called and said we couldn't use those nucular thingies, so we're gonna have to stick with the smaller explosions. but for extra effect we'll use bombs that make a WHOLE LOT of small explosions so it'll still look cool.

Sorry for straying back on topic, but here is the text from an advertisement on the back cover of a magazine I get.

Equip your PC with the power of NVIDIA GeForce FX.

Before you set off to conquer exotic continents in the spectactular online game, Dark Age of Camelot: Shrounded Isles, be sure to pick up armor, a battle axe...and an NVIDIA GeForce FX graphics processor. Why? Because battling with a few thousand of your friends and foes online will surely bring you and your PC to its knees unless you are armed with blazing firepower and rock-solid compatibility of NVIDIA GeForce FX.

Ask any gamer or game devloper and they will tell you: All the greatest games are developed on NVIDIA, to be played on NVIDIA.

I got a chuckle out of it.  Especially the last part.

How does this sound as far as possible scenarios:

a) Valve reveals that Team Fortress 2 is being killed as a standalone game.
b) Valve announces Half-Life 2, to be published by Activision.
c) TF2 resurfaces as the multiplayer portion of HL2, either shipped with the game or available for download after launch, possibly through Steam.
d) Following the retail release of DoD, Activision and Valve follow up by publishing Natural Selection.
e) The rumors of "Half Life 2 exclusively for Xbox/Nvidia etc. etc." all turn out to be false.
f) Valve's allegedly spiffy new engine is made available for licensing.

?

My apologies for staying on-topic.

I see it as a sort of conversational in-breeding.  Perhaps its all getting worse because the site has been just this group for so long with little new blood.  Its the reason for The List.

bet you this is something along the lines of what STALKER is doing, if you have an Nvidia card you get to see extra funky stuff, if you dont you still get to play the game but sans 'supar majik stuffs'.

cant see Valve killing 50+ (pnooma) of their possible market by going with just one brand of card.

US begins the process of 'regime change'

The decision to proceed with an embryonic government comes in response to memoranda written by Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld last week, urging that the US begin to entrench its authority in areas under its control before the war is over.

Pentagon officials told The Observer that the administration is determined to impose the Rumsfeld plan and sees no use for a UN role, describing the international body as 'irrelevant'.

But, the UN is not irrelevant when it comes to helping with aid in iraq. They are irrelevant, when it comes to controling iraq, and the oil there.

The investigations by the inspectors for 1441 did not come to a conclusion. If Iraq was found to be violating 1441, the inspectors would have said it. If Iraq was preventing any kind of inspection work to be done, the inspectors would have said it. What the inspectors said was that they needed more time, and that although they did not yet have everything they needed, they were making progress and Iraq was cooperating. This was also the opinion of the majority of the security council. The UN did not find Iraq to be in violation of 1441. So there was no reason to enforce the consequences, yet.

Actually, in the ratings, war coverage is being beaten by Friends reruns.

Of course, this is only a minor technicality, as even when "properly elected" into office, a politician has as much chance of not having gotten there via corrupt means as Dubya has of spelling racecar backwards.  --UncleJeet
